A boogieman that doesn't want to scare anyone doesn't deserve to be called a monster.
At least that's what my family and every other boogie monster have told me my entire life.
Looked down on and bullied for as long as I can remember, I finally have enough and run away from home. The only thing I'd miss is my best friend Johnathan. But he's boogie royalty. The perfect boogie. If I stick around, I'd only drag him down. He deserves better than that.
Turns out leaving is the best decision I ever made. I'm not the only monster who doesn't fit the mold. My new town is full of misfit monsters like me. Monsters who make me feel like I belong for the first time in my life. And even a couple monsters who make me feel something I've only ever felt with one other monster.
Riley, a Kaiju monster, who like me, can't control when or how he changes form. The teasing looks he gives me send butterflies racing through my stomach.
And Leo, a gargoyle statue on top of the library from dusk 'til dawn and a mouthwatering man who's hard as stone by day. I can't help fantasizing about what it would feel like to have all that muscle pinning me down.
But when our way of life is threatened by outsiders, we must come together to defend our sanctuary.
I've been run out of my home once. I won't let it happen again.
